Featured Photographer {Carol Dinsmoore}

Carol is a fellow photographer and friend…and yet another reason I have to give love to Iheartfaces!  She has been an inspiration and a joy in getting to know.

TELL US A LITTLE SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF.

Hi! My name's Carol Dinsmoore! When I take pictures, my purpose is to find beauty in everyone that I photograph.  I try to get to know my clients. I also step back when I need to and let them reveal only what they want to share.  This effort allows me to capture them as genuinely as possible, which gives life to the photographs.  In saying all this, I have not arrived! I continue to learn with each shoot.  I hope that I never stop learning!

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

I am available in Wetumpka and Montgomery, Alabama. I enjoy urban and natural resources for my shoots.

WHAT GOT YOU INTERESTED IN PHOTOGRAPHY?

I became interested in photography when I was a child and someone took a picture of me, by a coca cola sign .  He took the shot, processed it, and presented  me with a zoomed in black and white profile shot. From that moment I couldn't think of doing anything else with my life.

HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU GOT YOUR FIRST CAMERA?

I received two cameras from my parents.  A small 110 camera around the age of 9 and later at the age of 16, a Canon AE-1 program.

What made you realize this is what you wanted to do for a living?

I put this dream on hold for many years while I served in the military and followed my husband on his assignments in the military as well.  Ironically, I have been imaging for 23 years in the medical field. I have always continued to take my camera everywhere and in 2012, I was approached to shoot a wedding. From that experience, I was approached to do another. I then decided to become more familiar with digital imaging and post processing. My dream was revitalized, officially in February 2013. God's timing is always perfect. I want to reach a different market of people.  I want to provide quality work for a reasonable investment, that an average American can afford.

What are some of the toughest things you deal with as a photographer?

One of the most challenging things about being a photographer, is staying true to my style, but allowing some tweaking to help accomplish my goals.  Making time to improve myself and accepting  constructive criticism is also important. Coming to terms with how to value my work and understanding that zero of zero equals zero, in dollars.  I've had to start with a humble attitude and think of how much I would pay someone with the same experience and build from there.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?

I would describe my style as natural and whimsical.

NATURAL LIGHT OR ARTIFICIAL?

I prefer natural light.

BEST PHOTOGRAPHY ADVICE YOU'VE BEEN GIVEN?

The best photography advice I've been given, is to start a business.  I am really enjoying it.

BEST ADVICE YOU COULD GIVE SOMEONE ELSE PURSUING PHOTOGRAPHY?

If anyone desires a career in photography I hope that it's because they love to do it. It will definitely be revealed in their work, which will determine their future.

WHAT'S IN YOUR CAMERA BAG?

I am definitely not a camera snob! I believe that a gifted person can create beautiful images with any camera. I say that because, I have not purchased my dream camera nor lenses yet! My first real digital camera was a Canon Rebel T3, which I became quite comfortable with, quickly.  Secondly, I opted for a Canon 50D, which I am quite happy with.  I use it with a Canon EF 50 mm f 1:8 lens and  a kit lens, a Canon EF 75-300 mm zoom f/4-5/6 lens. I own a Tamron lens and other kit lenses that I rarely use. I don't use a tripod right now, I'm a rebel like that! I am a rule follower, but in photography I try to be free and just basically do what I like!
