Creating a Gallery with your Portraits...

It can be difficult to visualize portraits on your walls, but hopefully the following examples will inspire you.  There are limitless arrangements that can be made, these are just a few.  It's always a good idea to lay out the frames on the ground before hanging them to get a good idea of what it will look like on your wall.

Just a few tips to keep in mind when planning your arrangement:

-Remember to give the most important piece a central position and just at the eye level (according to room use).  In a dining room photos should be at the level where diners look when seated. In a child's room photos should be hung in his or her line of sight.  Along stairs the frame placement should follow the angle of the stairway and measure about 55 inches above each step.

-Horizontal alignments visually "lengthen" the room where they are while with a vertical line the ceilings appear higher.

-If you have several frames of similar or identical dimensions, bringing them closer will create "unity".

-Avoid placing a small frame alone on a large wall, these are best placed between windows or pieces of furniture.  On the contrary, a large frame can perfectly be placed on a small wall.

-Reduce the distance between your frames while spacing them regularly

-Keep in mind that your family portraits are works of art, to be admired.  Your most important prints ideally would be no smaller than 11x14.

-Above all, it is a matter of feeling!  There is no "rule" as to how your portraits should be displayed...only that you do what "feels" right to you!

You are not limited by framed prints.  An excellent alternative, Gallery Wraps and standouts add an artistic look to your prints.  Both are great choices and have a great "showy" quality that make the image you choose quite the showpiece for your home.  The difference, for the most part, is in how formal or traditional you prefer your display.  Gallery wraps tend to give a more traditional feel and have a really strong impact on your decor, whereas standouts are more modern, while they are showpieces they tend to have an understated elegance.
